Socrative - The "Clicker" Alternative

Have you wanted to use the “clickers” but don’t know how or think they are too hard to set up?

Do you want to give students quizzes and have them automatically graded for you?

Are you interested in using “exit slips” at the end of your lessons?

If you answered YES to any of the questions above then you should try Socrative. Socrative is a smart student response system that allows you as the teacher to engage your classroom through a series of educational exercises, quizzes and games via the computer, laptop or iPad.  We have this app on the iPads but the students can also complete these custom teacher-made quizzes, surveys, and exit slips on a laptop or computer.

The video below will show you how to create the different types of activities and how your students access these activities.

I would love to help you set up your account and get started using Socrative so come see me or email me TODAY!

iPad Challenge

I would like to challenge all of you to integrate the use of the iPads into at least one of your lessons by the end of the school year.  It can be as simple as using them to do research, to review a concept or to take a survey/quiz.  Or you can use them to create a product.  There are many productivity apps on the iPad including Pages, Keynote, iMovie, Educreations, and Ideasketch.  I am going to be sharing many ideas on how to use these apps over the next few weeks and would love to help you create a project!

iPads are not just a toy.  There are so many uses for them in the classroom.  I was lucky enough to visit a CPS school yesterday and oberve a 6th, 7th and 8th grade classroom that just integrated the use of the iPads into their curriculum this year.  The three projects I saw were 6th grade students using the Educreations app to complete and explain how to solve an algebra problem, 7th grade students using the Strip Design app to create visual representations of potential and kinetic energy (we do not have the Strip Design app but something similar), and 8th grade students using Keynote to create presentations.

The point of using an iPad in the classroom shouldn’t be simply to use the digital device, but to provide a tool to aid learning, as this will empower learners to engage in the transformation of learning experiences, which would not be possible without iPad technology.  I challenge you to “think outside the box” and find an innovative way to bring learning alive in your classroom with the use of the iPads.

I would love to help each and every one of you come of with a great idea so please email with questions and/or to make an appointment to meet!

Trimester 3 iPad Apps

Many new apps have been added to the iPads for the third trimester.
Also, remember that we now have a full classroom set of 30 iPads.
I will be blogging about many of the apps over the next few weeks to give you ideas on how you can use them in your classroom.
